Collaboration with Illinois State University

SIU's Elena M. Sliepcevich Centre for Health Education Studies is pleased to collaborate with the Health Sciences Department at Illinois State University to provide undergraduate research opportunities.Establishment of a collaborative agreement between the Health Education units provides opportunities to mentor undergraduate School Health Education students in historical research through use of Centre primary resources housed at Morris LIbrary's Special Collections Research Center.

An undergraduate Professional Development Undergraduate Historical Research Award has been created to parallel the Centre graduate student Research Fellows Award. Dissemination of research (presentation at a national conference/publication in peer-reviewed journal) by recipients also will expand awareness of School Health Education history and its implications for contemporary and future best practices for the profession.

Key Leaders Interviews from International Electronic Journal of Health Education (IEJHE)

From 1989 to 2011, Dr. Mark Kittleson was Professor of Health Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He is most widely known for being founder of the International Electronic Journal of Health Education (IEJHE) (1997) later purchased by the American Association of Health Education; and HEDIR. Some consider HEDIR to be the FIRST social network for the profession, created to bring its nearly 2,000 subscribers/professionals together from across all work settings.

Dr. Kittleson's inaugural Elena M. Sliepcevich Centre for Health Education Studies (EMS CHES) contribution is the collection of interviews conducted by Health Education key leaders of key leaders. These interviews conducted between 1997-1999 are unique artifacts among those in the EMS CHES Collections.
